The comics do help a bit in explaining how that development went through, but even without them, it was the logical step for Lara, considering all we know about her. With all that in mind, it isn't really that far off to believe Lara became obsessed in destroying Trinity as revenge for her father, not even thinking things through all that well. And Lara was always an obsessive person all throughout the reboot Trilogy, especially in Rise: she was obsessed with saving everyone from Yamatai at all cost, she was obsessed in proving her father was not mad, even going to war-torn Syria by herself and going to Siberia knowing really well that Trinity means business. Right at the end she finds out Richard was murdered by Trinity instead of committing suicide like she believed her entire life, and they killed Ana right in front of her. I don't think Lara is remotedly different from who she was on Rise.
NEW TOMB RAIDER MOVIE PS3
Hell, TR2013 game out seven years ago and I still remember it, but because it was beautiful (it was, for a PS3 game), but because the story was gripping, and the characters well constructed.Ĭrystal Dynamics and Eidos are absolutely capable of delivered quality content. Rockstar did it, Naughty Dog did it with two of their games and it ultimately paid off (U4 and RDR2, but I have no doubt TLOU II will be just as great). It's better to delay a game in order to deliver a quality product than rush it out. Gamers aren't as immature as the industry might think. Which would also imply giving enough time to those writers to come up with something that makes sense. If they develop the new game, they really need to get new writers who actually understand that character continuity and growth matter and has to be shown in the game rather than mentioned. Loose ends weren't tied (why Yamatai and Siberia if all Trinity needed was the silver box, nothing is ever explained). The information dump at the beginning is microwaved. Lara's personality shift is told off screen rather than showed, we're shoved into the game with a completely different character from Rise and somehow we need to understand that she's reacting like that because of things we didn't see her go through. However, it feels like they didn't even try to do something half decent here. I do think it was rushed, there's no question about that, and having to take over the last game of a trilogy when they weren't developed by EM themselves is a challenge, I absolutely agree with you. Visually, the game is stunning, but it's not enough to make it stand out among similar visually stunning games which have a stronger, tighter narrative and were released earlier or around the same time (HZD for example).
